Furniture

My hubby and I need new furniture. I prefer American furniture because most of it is top quality. Actually we need new furniture for the whole house, especially in our bedroom. Our bed is composed of a mattress and box springs on a short base. It is kind of low and sometimes my hubby has a hard time getting up because he is 6’4 tall and 280 lb. We have been looking for a higher bed with drawers underneath so we can save space in our bedroom. Since we haven’t been able to find one like that in any furniture stores, he has decided to build one himself. Maybe while he is designing it he can make it look like this Georgia 5-pcs Bedroom Set from Savannah Collections.

Replacement Doors & Windows

When my hubby bought this house in 1998, it was in pretty bad shape and needed a lot of work. He bought it when he had his contract engineering business which would sometimes give him lots of free time between projects to work on remodeling. He did manage to get quite a bit done in the first few years but then he got really busy with his engineering business and the remodeling was no longer a top priority. He wanted to do most of the work himself but with his recent health problems it has become more and more difficult for him to do the physical labor. We don’t want to go into debt to hire someone to finish the remodeling so we are in a wait and see approach to getting all the projects finished.

One of the remodeling project ideas that I really like is having a sliding glass door installed that would give us direct access to our front deck and a large bay window for the living room. Both areas are south facing so we would get great sun in the winter time and the roof over hang would protect us from the high angle sun in the summer time. The greater window area would make for more heat loss in the winter time but if all the windows are double glazed it would be worth a small jump in our heating bills. Vanity Stools & Benches

We currently have a queen size bed, vanity, chest of drawers, a couple of bed stands and a clothes rack in our bedroom. Consequently, there is not much room left for vanity stools. My hubby is currently designing a bed that will have drawers underneath that will take the place of the chest of drawers so maybe we will have room then. We are also thinking about moving to a larger house, possibly in the Philippines and if so I will definitely buy vanity stools and benches along with vanity tables for the bedroom and bathroom areas. Among the vanity stools that I really like are Dayville, Zebra and the Palm Beach Wicker Ottoman. They look classic and elegant.

Summer

I am so excited about having the summer off! I have to say that it is the best perk to being a teacher and hanging out with ten year olds all day long! I can not wait to be able to sleep in. I will be able to say goodbye to my husband and then just roll back over and go back to sleep! It is going to be the best. I am trying to plan as little as possible for myself because I just want to have a summer of relaxation. This will probably be the last summer that I have all to myself because we are planning on starting to try to have a baby next year. I even went to directstartv.com to get TV service because I am going to be all about watching a girly movie in the middle of the day. I may even declare a movie day once a week where I just stay in my jammies all day and watch movies! All the movies that my husband never wants to watch with me.

I Like LED Flashlights

My hubby recently bought some led flashlights when there was a big sale at a nearby store. He had never owned any before so he was a little bit leery about how bright they would be. After trying out the led flashlights, he wished he had bought the five pack for only $5 so we could send some to the Philippines. They are really nice flashlights at a great price. I now prefer using led flashlights over standard flashlights because they consume less energy.

Saving Money

My husband recently lost his job so we are having to find ways to budget and save money. I have started using coupons at the grocery store, we quit eating out as often, and we are looking for a way to save on our internet package. I searched for “wild blue deals in my area and came across a package that was more affordable than what we are already paying. My husband has been out of work for about three months and we have actually saved a lot of money over the past three months. My husband has been to a couple of interviews over the past two weeks and we are really hoping that something works out. Even after he finds a new job, I think that we will keep trying to save money because it really makes a big difference. Maybe we can use the extra money for something fun, like a vacation. I am probably jumping ahead too much. Right now I just need to keep praying that my husband gets one of the jobs that he has interviewed for. After that, we can start planning fun things.

So many telemarketers call my home phone number that I am thinking about changing it. I’ve had the number for so many years that I don’t want to, since it will be such a pain to inform all of my friends of the change. The problem has just gotten so bad, that I don’t think there is any other way to deal with it. I guess having a listed number for so many years makes us prime targets. I’ve tried getting on the do not call list, but I don’t think it works. Today alone I got calls from people trying to sell me home security equipment, car insurance, mortgage refinancing and student loan consolidation. I feel like I can’t even relax at home anymore without unplugging my home from the wall. I’ve tried being nice, being rude, and not answering. None of these tactics work. I’m thinking it doesn’t make sense to keep the number if it is flooded with so many telemarketing calls we can’t even use it. We have cell phones now anyways, so it’s not necessary anymore.

MY HUSBAND THE GAMER

I looked into Internet Service Providers and ended up getting a provider that provided fast service at a good price. The reason that the internet connection had to be fast is that my husband loves to play games on the internet. I know that it sounds dorky, and it is a little bit dorky, but he really enjoys them. He doesn’t play them so much that I feel like it is out of control, but he does play for about four or five hours a week. He has two games that he really likes. One is a football game where you can play against other people through your Play Station that is connected to the internet. He loves it! The other game that he plays is on the computer. I don’t know too much about it, but you need a quick internet connection because of the quick and vivid graphics. The game charges our credit card every month, it is called World of Warcraft. I’m not exactly sure which one is his favorite game, but he deserves to relax. He works really hard and even if he does like teenager things, I am just happy that he has something fun to do.
